About Us

Empire Train & Hobby started in 1985 as a custom painting shop. Our models were sold under the "TrainSmith" brand for many years through local hobby shops.

In 1996 we began to sell DCC as well in our Dayton, OH location as Southern Digital Northeast.

After the move back to Rochester in 1999 we began to grow and in 2003 exceeded our parent company in all around sales.

We decided to strike out on our own as Empire Northern Models and open our first commercial location in 2005.

In April of 2011, we changed our name to Empire Train & Hobby and moved to 26 East Main Street in the Village of Webster, 

this locations gives us better visibility and greater access to the public.

We also carry Atlas, Peco & Kato track.

You can special order anything we don't stock, most items will arrive within a week or less.
