About Us

Empire Northern started in 1985 as a custom painting shop.  Our models were sold under the "TrainSmith" brand for many years through local hobby shops.  

In 1996 we began to sell DCC as well in our Dayton, OH location as Southern Digital Northeast.  

After the move back to Rochester in 1999 we began to grow and 2003 exceeded our parent company in all around sales.  

We decided to strike out on our own as Empire Northern Models and open our first commercial location in 2005.  

In 2006 we moved to our current location 680 Ridge in Webster, NY.  

In January of 2010, we moved to the lower floor of our building, this move increased our space to over 2500SqFt.
